Even the Second City Improvisational Comedy troupe would find it a bit humorous that the nickname for Chicago is “Second City,” because recently it was rated the “second-best city in the world” by TimeOut.com. Chicago is one of the most fascinating cities in the United States. It can boast a cultural diversity and vibe that makes it one of the most fascinating places to visit in the country – it does indeed rank in the top ten places in the world – arguably it should be number one!

Artistic events, concerts, musicals, plays, improvisational comedy and a host of other options await anyone who is fortunate enough to take a trip to the Windy City. The possibilities are endless, beginning with Wrigley Field - one of the most historic Baseball parks in the country. Its only rival is the veritable Fenway Park and local Chicagoans would tell you that it’s even more impressive watching the Cubs play ball! Across town, you can find the home of the White Sox, and then there’s Soldier Field – the stadium in the park, where cultural events and concerts events occur throughout the year, including watching the Bears during football season. Then you can watch the Chicago Blackhawks on the ice, or enjoy basketball seeing the Bulls, competing strong every year in the NBA.

When sports are not on your radar, then you’ll find a plethora of museums. It would take weeks to see the more than 50 art and historical museums in the city, ranging from the Museum of Contemporary Art to the National Museum of Mexican Art.

The city of Chicago itself, which arose from the ashes of the great fire in 1871, is known as one of the most significant architectural attractions in the world. An architectural cruise down the Chicago River opens a visitor’s eyes to the wonder of the Willis Tower (originally the Sears Tower), which is still one of the tallest in the world. Add to that the Merchandise Mart, a building nearing the century mark which is one of the few buildings in the United States so large that it has its own zip code! And it’s hard to believe that the Chicago River itself, made up of over a hundred and fifty miles, is the only major river in the world whose flow was completely reversed through the engineering genius of Chicago’s engineers. It used to flow into Lake Michigan, but now flows inland.

And then there’s Lake Michigan itself, which, at a size of more than 22,000 square miles makes it the fifth largest lake on planet Earth! You can spend days on cruises, sailing expeditions and waterfront fun on this beautiful lake.

Finally, concert venues abound in Chicago, from outdoor concerts at places like Millennium Park and the Huntington Bank Pavilion. Then there are the year-round locations, including the United Center, Chicago Theatre and Symphony Center.

Shopping places abound in the city, ranging up and down Michigan Avenue, including the Shops at North Bridge and Water Tower Place. Want to experience the Navy Pier, where unique events are held throughout the year? Who would have thought that Midwest’s largest Lobster and Seafood Festival is held in town? And just East from there, you can visit the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, with hundreds of exhibits, even including a Boeing 727 and even a German World War II “U-Boat” submarine.
